LIFT Transitional Housing

Family Services Center's LIFT Housing Program provides low-cost short-term affordable and transitional housing to homeless families in Huntsville, Alabama. LIFT also provides supportive services to prepare families for independent living and permanent affordable housing to help transition them to achieve self-sufficiency by programs end.

LIFT is designed to prevent families from becoming chronically homeless by providing early intervention, affordable housing and supportive social services. The program offers low-cost housing for verifiably homeless families with dependent children within the household, or those at imminent-risk of becoming homeless (as defined by federal guidelines).

All families must have at least one employed parent and one dependent child. They must be homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness according to federal guidelines. On a case-by-case basis, LIFT will consider other income in the temporary absence of employment. LIFT does not accept individual requests for assistance. Families must be referred by a representative from an agency within our local HUD Continuum of Care.

LIFT utilizes multiple funding sources, to include: the United Way of Madison County, ESG funds from ADECA through the City of Huntsville Community Development Department, local faith-based entities and other local funding sources.
